Summer is a feeling
We are pleased to present the recent works of American-British painter Christina Dobbs and Italian painter Leo Ragno in an exhibition themed around summer, the poetry of its languors and escapes.
Entering the paintings of Christina Dobbs and Leo Ragno is like stepping into a summer memory, as if feeling the dry grass crackling underfoot, finding a childhood path, the scent of a desire, the floating bodies bathing, losing oneself in color, rediscovering oneself, and distractedly uncovering gentle, old burns. It captures the lights of childhood and desire.
The bodies blend, captured in a space that feels like a time so long it seems to stretch. Both artists work with the time of idleness in the expanses of days abandoned to the sun; moments of latency, of calm where the distant sound of crickets chimes, the delicate crash of a stone thrown into the air, the rustle of a sheet.
These are paintings of the ordinary and of erasure, paintings of time and its indolence, a mix of waiting and languor, where the forbidden has the breath of innocence. And then finally, the void becomes a world, the abstract, the contourless, the mingled bodies, the gaze without eyes, the portrait without a face. It is the emergence of the poem in memory.
Christina Dobbs is an American-British painter living in London. She recently earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in 2021 from the City & Guilds of London Art School.
Leo Ragno, is an Italian painter and printmaker born in Milan in 1984, he currently teaches at the Academy of Fine Arts in Milan.
